EZ Snappin: World Cup corrected the most broken bits of FIFA 10. Shame they broke new stuff in FIFA 11.

Euler: My son is playing this. We played as Spain and lost to the Faroe Islands, which gave the bitter lolls.

EZ Snappin: World Cup corrected the most broken bits of FIFA 10. Shame they broke new stuff in FIFA 11. Sold this, bought PES, am happier man.
Jeff LeVine: This seems unsurprisingly solid. Passing felt the same as it’s still easy to ping pong the ball along (at least with Real Madrid). Defense felt slightly better w/ additional jockeying for possession animations. Maybe minor improvements to the computer AI when they’re on offense? I didn’t like the factoids popping up on screen during the game. The only “major” difference I noticed was with throw-ins and goal kicks; they’ve gone back to a magic circle that you can’t move your player into, like in old PES – an improvement to the weird jerky animation that was going on there in the last few games, I guess.

Onimo: Kind of hard to keep control with this new 360 jostling thing – seems like anyone who gets close to my guy gets the ball. Are they trying to make it like real modern football where no-one dribbles anymore?

baaderonix: Ball dynamic feels very different; seems far too easy to steal the ball. The ballyhooed personality thing actually seemed noticable (eg. Barca playing in a Barca style).

Roberto Spiralli: If EA devises some bullshit for each year’s new FIFA they are WAY more interested in showing it off by shoving it in your face all the time than in whether it makes the game more or less fun to play; e.g. ball hitting the ref, defenders stopping and raising their arm instead of pursuing a through ball. OMG IT’S SO REALISTIC I AM DELIGHTED THAT HAPPENED WHAT FUN I AM HAVING NOW
cozen: I’m addicted. They’ve done a great job of making fatigue and stamina meaningful this year and having the star players play like stars. It still doesn’t quite have the ~soul~ or individuality of PES quite down but it’s getting there.

Polyphonic: I don’t understand socc… I mean, football. I’ve never played it; I never watch it apart from the World Cup and I have a shaky understanding of its rules. But I love sports video games, and when a good one comes along, I will play it until I puke.

Roberto Spiralli : Yet again, this is fucking terrible. The biggest problem is the movement of the players which is unnatural, clumsy and very axis-bound. Turning is sluggish and gives the feel of dragging oil tankers around the pitch. When I went to pass, what happened onscreen was frequently not quite what I intended. Tackling is very weird, partly automated and I couldn’t get the hang of it at all. I don’t know how they keep getting it so wrong, except for the fact that people keep buying this shit and it gets the same lazy ass decent reviews every time, so maybe the developers don’t even know that their product sucks.
Cozwyn: I never thought I’d say anything positive about FIFA in my life but this game is meaty and physical and deep and FUN!! The shooting is definitely the best bit; it feels crunchy and heavy compared to PES’ floaty and light kicks. The animation is, as ever, impeccable but there was some horrid slowdown during replays.
MPx4A: It is a disgrace that there is no training mode, but it is quite good that the soundtrack has Cut Copy and Gonzalez EA really appear to have brought their A-game with regards to the online possibilities in this; just as long as you have the means to play with people who will pass the ball in co-op games and not just pick Man United all the time, you’re likely to find a good match.
AleXTC: The level of detail in the gameplay and moves/combinations you can do is just great.

EZ Snappin: I waited until now to jump into FIFA, and my wait paid off in spades. Be A Pro mode as fun as anything else this year.

If: If we’re just going on what I spent the most time on this year I think this might just about get it. The temptation to go online for one game and just keep playing more is immense; especially when someone keeps offering you a rematch and you just know you could beat them again. The refinements from the already impressive 09 are really noticeable. The way that the ball bounces around and deflects off players feels remarkably realistic and pulling off an awesome long ball down the wing, Arshavin chip goal from a stupid angle, or cynical foul to avoid a certain equalizer, is more satisfying than ever.

Sondrangerbot: I played this more than any other game. Lots of stupid flaws to it but the gameplay alone is close to perfection.

Cozwn: Messi plus 360 control is sublime.
