Bamcquern: I love this tiny naked ninja series and game developer Ikiki’s work in general, and this might even have rated higher if I could get past that really high wall that requires a string of difficult moves performed in about one second with precision timing to move on.

Captain Lorax: I got to level 19 I think. It’s insane.

jeff: It’s not even fun and only barely a game, but still very playable.

jamescobo: God, why can’t I stop playing this?

Forksclovetofu: It’s a two-player only game where people take thirty second turns scripting, scoring and animating an 8-bit environment that they each play through together. My vote for Sleep Is Death is nearly a meta-recommendation; I wasn’t able to devote the time and energy it required you to put into it, but the concept and the quantum leap forward that it made even as a proof of concept deserves acknowledgement. If this had come out when I was in high school and had lots of free time, I basically would’ve eat/sleep/breathed this; as it is, I probably played it four times and backed slowly away. I blame myself, not the game.

Mordy: This was really easy to set up; I made an interrogation room, a visitor’s room for a prison, a house, a prisoner in striped pajamas and a hanging interrogation style lightbulb. Everything else I needed came with the game. I’m already working on something for my wife where I made an avatar that looks like her.

zappi: Sin & Punishment 2 is: (A) ugly as hell, the cutscenes will make you want to gouge your eyes out with a rusty spoon, (B) really really difficult at times and (C) tremendous fun

Bamcquern: This is a procedurally generated top-down shooter that only works on really good computers.

a passing spacecadet: An ASCII roguelike take on Princess Maker, with multiple dungeons and special combo moves, supposedly coded within a week. Remarkably, it actually manages to be fun to play (though I admit it’s an acquired taste).

Surfing at Work: Dreamy and difficult.

Jamescobo: Fun but very very overrated. If you were one of those people who busted a massive nut over the Bit Generations games, you’ll probably love this.
groovypanda: Osmos is a great gaming experience and the soundtrack rocks (in an extremely ambient way of course).

Lead Designer/Programmer Interview

GamalielRatsey: Succumbed to Osmos, which helped soothe my hangover. Clever and fun.
